Prowl-Loc, aka Shawn Bluntz, is a legendary force in the West Coast underground scene—a true multiple threat as a DJ, producer, music engineer, and rapper. Born to Korean and French-Indian parents in Canada, his journey took a drastic turn when he relocated to California at a young age, finding himself caught between the raw streets of Central Los Angeles and the grid of Downtown Sacramento. This constant back-and-forth gave him a unique perspective, shaped by culture shock, survival, and the drive to make a name in a world that didn’t always know where to place him.

By the late ‘80s, Prowl-Loc was already deep in the game, developing his lyrical style, beat-making skills, and ear for raw street sound. He founded the pioneering rap groups Smooth Kaos and the UGN Crew, setting the foundation for a career rooted in creative independence and realness. In the years that followed, he joined forces with Bo Peep, eventually co-creating the underground supergroup California’s Finest, alongside West Coast spitters like C-Dub, Soda-Pop, Kilo Hype, Big Shane, and others.

In 1999, Prowl-Loc took it a step further, establishing Fat Sac Records, an independent label that became a launchpad for authentic, street-certified hip hop. His production style blends classic G-Funk with grimy underground grit, layering soulful samples, booming basslines, and razor-sharp lyricism. As a self-made engineer and beatmaker, he’s been the mastermind behind countless tracks that still bump in lowriders and backroom sessions across Cali.

Now posted in Sacramento, Prowl-Loc continues to embody the essence of old school West Coast rap, producing, rhyming, and mentoring the next generation—all while keeping his circle solid and his sound timeless. From Canada to Cali, from the block to the booth, Prowl-Loc is a living archive of hip hop’s golden era, still putting in work and proving the underground never dies—it just gets louder.
